Start Nit Picking
September 23, 2008
Ok so the title of our previous blog post may have been a little mis-leading.
Time consuming as it is, combing for head lice needs to be undertaken meticulously. It is recommended that you comb for at least 30 minutes every four days for at least two weeks - up until the point where no live lice have been found for at least 3 consecutive combs.
Stop Nit-Picking

Parents dread the notice from school that warn parents to be extra vigilant due to some children in your child’s class having head lice. They dread it even more if it’s your child that actually caused the notice - unless you have my parents in which case they laughed.
The problem is once lice are in the air, even a clipper cut won’t get rid of them. A further problem is that if you only notice lice because of itching the chances are they have already been there for months.
To get rid of lice you have to get rid of the lice eggs that attach themselves to the hair shafts about 5mm from the scalp. Naughty Nits Shampoo is a very effective herbal formula that does this from the excellent Naughty Nits range. There is also a Naughty Nits spritzer and a hair oil to go with the shampoo and prevent the lice from coming back - even in epidemics. All of these formulas are 100% natural and safe which is why we recommend them.
There are obviously other natural remedies on the market to the job and, if you prefer, you could actually try using mayonnaise. Just shampoo the hair, rinse and then smother mayonnaise on. Put on a shower cap afterwards and by the next morning the lice should be dead. All that is left to do then is get the eggs out with a nit comb.
