Effective Use of a Nebulizer for Asthma Treatment
July 29, 2009
The number of people suffering from asthma has risen sharply over the past 20 years. Nebulizer is a machine usually associated with asthma patients. Respiratory breathing aid, it turns liquid medicine into an easily inhalable mist.
These Nebulizers are very easy to use and allow children to inhale through a mask or a mouthpiece which can make them claustrophobic. However, they ensure that more medication is delivered to the bronchioles and the lungs as opposed to an inhaler where most medication gets to the back of the throat unless used properly.
Regular care of nebulizer system is essential to maintain proper operation and longevity. During use, see to it that the compressor is at the same surface level as electrical outlet and plugged in. Once the treatment is over, unplug the equipment from the wall, place it in an area out of reach of children. When kept unused for a long time, the nebulizer should be washed, cleaned thoroughly, dried, and stored in a clean, dry and dust free location. Inspect and replace any parts or supplies if needed to again put to use.
Can Arthritis be identified by blood test?
July 21, 2009
Arthritis is classified into 100 different types. As the disease presents itself in various ways, there aren’t any conclusive tests to determine whether an individual suffers from arthritis or not. Blood test is an important factor in determining the diagnosis.
Blood tests are not only used for identifying the disease but for evaluating the progression and making decisions about the treatment plan. After blood is drawn from the patient, it is put into different files with different colored tops, each representing different type of preservative or reactive agents for the different types of blood. While some tests yield results in 24 hours, others take up to two weeks.
Blood tests, or any tests, are inconclusive for arthritis. Physicians will use a combination of physical examination, thorough medical history of both patient and their family as well and blood tests to identify arthritis. They may also use imaging tests including x-rays, bone scans, MRI, CAT scan and pulmonary function tests. The only real way to slow the progression of arthritis is an accurate diagnosis.
Using Herbal Remedies To Treat Arthritis
July 14, 2009
Arthritis sufferers who haven’t had any pain relief from conventional medications can revert to herbal remedies to treat their arthritis. Natural herbal remedies and supplements are plant and animal extracts manufactured outside the standard pharmaceutical regulated manufacturing plants.
The main question that arises is “Do herbal remedies work?” Herbal remedies have been used for thousands of years and studies indicate their effectiveness in treatment protocols. However, arthritis patients need to select a good manufacturer for herbal medicines as most modern herbal medications contain harmful artificial chemicals.
After several years of trial and error, and research studies, sufferers have found relief using Ginger, Willow bark extract, feverfew, cat’s claw, stinging nettle, alfalfa, black cohosh and some raw juices. Though they decrease inflammation and offer side effects, they affect blood clotting and immune system severely. The use of herbal medications in the treatment of arthritis is a personal choice. Realistically, there are pros and cons to either take traditional medications or herbal remedies. It’s better left to the patient to make the choice.
