Naturally Cleansing Your Home
August 21, 2008
So you’ve installed your smoke detectors, bought a water filter and you put clean towels out every morning. Everything is going well so far. Now for a bit of cleaning.
I’m sure you are already aware that you should open windows and turn on extractor fans when using solvents, harsh cleaners and other noxious chemicals. But have you ever thought about replacing these harsh cleaners with homemade alternatives?
Here are some examples of ways you can keep the home clean without turning your home into a live gas chamber:
- Dissolve 4 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda in a litre of warm water to produce your own all purpose cleaner.
- Pour half a cup of bicarbonate of soda down your drains and then add half a cup of white vinegar. Leave them for 5 minutes and then flush your drains with boiling water from the kettle. Who needs toxic drain cleaner?
- Clean your oven as you go. Just sprinkle water over any spills while your oven is still warm and then add salt. When the oven cools you will be able to scrape the spills away easily.
- Dirty mirrors and windows? A weak solution of vinegar and water should do the trick. Get yourself a plant sprayer to make applying the solution a lot easier.
- Instead of air freshners why not try growing some scented plants. Hanging up bunches of lavender or mint will also work.
